Unique architecture is one of my true loves...especially when it comes to buildings with old world charm. Something about historic, seemingly abandoned buildings ignites a yearning curiosity and I find myself swooning to know its storied past. For me architecture is so much more than bricks and mortar. Its history spans generations and often significant historical events, and its design is characteristic of the style of its time. It is a piece of history still standing and waiting for its past to be rediscovered by someone new. So it is no surprise when I was driving around this past summer and saw this 1870's church sitting at the top of Pavilion Street in Mt. Adams my heart welled up with curiosity. And as a wedding planner, once I found out this "romantic ruin" was now a revitalized wedding venue, I was over the moon. I met with the venue coordinator to get a tour and the scoop for my brides. So here it is...
This historically registered property originally housed the Cincinnati Observatory, but due it's close proximity to the city pollution the Observatory was relocated to a nearby neighborhood, Mt. Lookout. The Holy Cross Monastery was built in 1873 and served as a Roman Catholic monastery and parish for over 100 years. When Holy Cross merged and relocated to Immaculata Church, the build sat abandoned. Years later, Towne Properties and Receptions Event Centers partnered to revitalize the empty church in its 2015 restoration. Today The Monastery Event Center is one of the most exclusive, wedding venues in the Cincinnati Area which is only minutes away. Its open air two story ceiling, swooping arches, and cobbled, exposed brick walls are just a few of its old world charm characteristics.
Aside from this gorgeous historic setting, The Monastery Event Center has much more to offer a bride seeking an enchanting and romantic wedding day. Each couple is granted exclusive access to the building, an exquisite courtyard, well-manicured grounds and a privately attended parking lot (which is a big deal if you know how limited parking is in Mt. Adams). The photo opportunities are endless with a breathtaking view of the Queen City and urban charm of the Mt. Adams neighborhood just steps away. You won't have any trouble finding a place to have the rehearsal dinner or having a late night post wedding outing with friends. The Monastery Event Center provides a comprehensive wedding package including...
- a bridal suite & private powder room
- separate staging areas for the bride and groom
- an experienced executive chef with culinary offerings
- personalized menu cards
- custom room set-up with mahogany chiavari padded chairs and a variety of linen options
- personalized champagne flutes for the bride and groom as a wedding day keepsake
The Monastery Event Center is truly the perfect venue for an enchanting and romantic wedding celebration!
